A member asked:

If a person was told that they had a low positive for herpes but never had symptoms or an outbreak. is it possible for the person to not have it? and how can you test for herpes with no outbreak or blood test?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Can not: Both oral and genital herpes can shed virus without outbreaks, it may not be feasible to culture the virus without an outbreak. Most adults have been and are presumed to be infected with oral herpes, with or without an outbreak or blood test. Genital herpes can be diagnosed at the time of outbreak and by blood test.
