"Terminal dysuria" refers to pain at the end of bladder emptying. The most common cause is a urinary tract infection; less common causes are interstitial cystitis and bladder cancer. A urinalysis and urine culture can reveal a urinary infection. Bladder pain in the absence of infection merits a urologic exam, including a bladder sonogram and possible cystoscopy (scope exam) by a urologist.
