Doctor or ER helps: The best treatment of depression is usually anti-depressant medication, psychotherapy (talk therapy), or a combination of the two. A class of medications called SSRI's (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors) is usually the first choice. One's doctor should be able to prescribe them for someone with depression. For suicidal thoughts, a person goes to the Emergency Room, such as by ambulance.

DEPRESSION: If you are feeling desperate please go to the Emergency Room and tell them your medication is not working. 1st have a physical exam by a Dr. to rule out a physical problem. The most complete evaluation for medication is with a Psychiatrist.
