RECTAL EXAM: The rectal exam, a part of the complete gyn exam, is not aimed at further evaluation of the cervix, which can be seen upon insertion of a speculum and best palpated during vaginal exam. The rectal exam is best used to ascertain the status of ovaries. If the vag exam is deferred because of virginity the cervix is temporarily ignored.
