A member asked:

Tested positive for herpes simplex 2. believe it is possible but unlikely. the test was mail in with me collecting sample.i had received a steroid injection an hour before i collected sample to treat symptoms of bronchitis. would this effect test?

No: A corticosteroid injection should not affect the herpes test. Herpes simplex 2 could have been transmitted by a partner who didn't have any eruption.

Agree with Dr. C: If the test was for HSV 2 DNA, that would not be affected by steroid shot. If you get HSV eruption, your doctor can prescribe medication to control the lesions and pain. Wish you good health!
