A member asked:

I am currently in the hospital and i'm being induced. i haven't progressed past 3cm and 50% effaced. the doctor hasn't broken my water because babys head isnt low but my water sack is. why would they induce me and not break my water?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Avoid cord prolapse: They are likely not breaking your water until you are more dilated and the baby's head is "engaged", meaning it's lower in the pelvis. If water breaks and head not down, risk the cord relapsing and this can be very serious, even fatal to the baby. Sounds like your OB doing things just right to protect you and your baby. Try to relax and trust OB, congratulations in advance!
