I have recently been put on blood pressure tables, 5mg amlodipine. at least i no longer experience my headache and dizziness. it's my second month on the medication. however in i always experience swollen ankles and legs, including pain in my calf?

Edema: Edema is a side effect of amlodipine and it would be exaggerated if associated fluid retention from hormonal factors or excessive salt use is operative. There should be no associated calf pain, however, and I advise an ultrasound study to exclude phlebitis. Adding low dose diuretic or changing from amlodipine to another antihypertensive medication is an option to avoid ankle edema.
