Gynecology referral: Problems with irregular prolonged bleeding are due to either hormones or the uterus. A Gyn Dr can do an ultrasound to look at your uterus and determine if there is some abnormality causing the bleeding. Typical findings include fibroids, adenomyosis and ovarian cysts.
