A member asked:

I have a common cold, but now my 3 year old daughter have a runny nose, congestion and fever that goes up and down, ive been alternating tylenol and motrin but keeps on and off. right now fever is 101.6 how often can i give her these meds?

Some basics: Fever is a normal body response to illness which increases heart & breathing rate to push blood along to supply improve tissue access to oxygen & healing factors. Low grade fever under 103 has no adverse effect on the body beyond the achy feeling. Fever meds for comfort can be given as needed, but are not required. I use one or the other but not both.
