Esophageal Spasms: Esophageal Spasms can cause severe pain similar to that of a heart attack. Working closely with a Gastroenterologist, there are a variety of stepped treatments that can be tried. Managing underlying conditions such as GERD is vital, several classes of antispasmodic (muscle relaxing) medications may also help. If all else fails, the GI Dr may suggest surgery to loosen the muscle causing contraction
