Basics: Once infected with a HPV wart strain they persist/grow until they are cleared by your immune system (~2 yrs) or removed by laser/freezing/chemical agents. If you are both infected with the same strain (of 4 +/- possible) you don't risk passing them back & forth. Once the strain clears it can remain dormant in your body indefinitely, but seldom returns to active/infectious state.
