Nodes: If these knob like structures are located on either side of the joint just under the fingernail, these are probably Heberden's nodes which are tiny bony spurs indicative of( wear and tear) osteoarthritis of that joint. These tend to run in families. An anti-inflammatory medication like ibuprofen or naproxen may reduce pain in the affected joint. These nodes may form on other fingers in the future
