Depoprogesterone ?: The injected hormone, a progestin, will cause irregularities in ovulation, and occasional withdrawal bleeding (spotting). Your ovaries will continue to produce estrogen, which causes thickening of the uterine lining, which breaks down and causes the bleeding. This is not dangerous, just annoying, but the birth control is almost as effective as the birth control pills.
