A member asked:

My 1 year old will soon get the chicken pox vaccine (onvara and varilrix). my wife has never had chicken pox nor the vaccine. does my wife also need to have a vaccine when my 1 year old has hers done, or will she not be at risk of adult chicken pox?

Should be vaccinated: Chicken Pox in adults is a severe illness. While your wife will not catch the virus from your vaccinated child, she is still at risk for catching it from the community. It would be prudent for her to have the vaccine while she is not pregnant, to reduce the risk of contracting it in the future either while pregnant or not.
