Preventing herpes: Taking acyclovir (Acivir®) reduces the chance of sexual tranmission of genital herpes causd by HSV2, but doesn't entirely eliminate it. The most effective additional step is condoms for all vaginal sex. Petroleum jelly has not been studied but probably will not reduce your risk. HSV2 can infect the mouth, but usually doesn't; performing oral sex on her is aute safe, with low chance of transmission
