Severe abd. swelling: Severe abdominal swelling means a severe need to see one's doctor to find out what's happening. There's not way to fix severe swelling without seeing the doctor for a good exam, and perhaps some lab tests. Often, "severe" means something serious enough to get evaluated at the ER. The ER is a good option if such a person cannot get checked by her primary care doctor soon enough.
