A member asked:

Why do people think having cancer is like a death sentence?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends....: Cancer used to be a death sentence for almost all, but we have made incredible progress over the last 30 years. Survival now depends on the type and characteristics of the cancer and the age of the patient. We now cure 80% of all kids with cancer. For many young adults, we have great cure rates for those with non hodgkin's lymphoma. The same disease in the elderly, though, is very hard to treat.
