Pacemaker: Often when one requires a beta blocker like metoprolol to prevent tachycardia an artificial internal pacemaker is inserted in order to prevent the heart rate from dropping too low. Stopping your metoprolol makes you prone to episodes of paroxsysmal tachycardia.
