Usually safe .. but.: Venlafaxine (Effexor) sometimes decreases blood sodium levels (hyponatremia) & risk may be increased when gabapentin is also used. Venlafaxine can sometimes increasesseizure risk in susceptible patients which could be a problem if gabapentin is taken to to control seizures .
