Common problem: Stool retention is a common problem of childhood that may become evident as soon as a child develops some control of the emptying process.Over time the large intestines balloon out & emptying becomes weaker & stooling hardens & slows. Short term meds do little. It can take a year of meds/scheduled pooping & emotional support to rehab the bowel. A Pedi GI may help.
