I currently have the birth control implant, however i still get my period every 5 weeks. ive been having severe stomach cramps before my period. is it a side effect of the implant? i didnt have sever cramps before the implant.

Implant: Unscheduled menstrual type bleeding is very common with these implants. The only hormone in the implant is progesterone which can cause this irregularity. The symptoms do improve over time if you are able to tolerate them. If they become more than you can bear, you should see your provider for other medication choices that could help.
