A member asked:

Is an alcohol based sanitizer effective against cold, flu and covid19 virus? if i sneeze on to my palm or mucus is in my hand and use sanitizer twice, will it work (even if my hands have some mucus)? washing my hands all the time is not possible?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Depends: Some sanitizers are made with weaker concentrations of alcohol or have been found otherwise less effective than others. I believe the FDA has published a list of those products to avoid. Most with an alcohol content at or above 70% are quite effective. Mechanical hand washing has advantages when any debris is present.
