A member asked:

I had an emg about a week ago due to ongoing neurological symptoms (pain, perceived weakness, spasticity). emg came back clear, and i was told symptoms were likely related to hyperexcitability. can emg miss something serious like als?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Possibly : EMG is very helpful in diagnosing ALS but a normal study does not completely rule out that diagnosis. If the symptoms are suspicious further testing/evaluation should be pursued
