A member asked:

My daughter, mckenzie has been nipped by our 10 week old puppy (she had her second out of 3 vaccines on monday). the puppy did draw blood. kenz had a booster x 2 for rabies as she was bit by a rabbit. is she safe? does she need antibiotic cream?

Basics: Such bites by a puppy that has good rabies shot status remains at risk for bacterial infection or tetanus. As long as the wound was cleaned out well & the area monitored for signs of infection it may self heal. After a good clean out with hydrogen peroxide and or anti-bacterial soap a thin layer of antibiotic cream can be used to cover the wound & leave it open for frequent observation.
