A member asked:

I was brushing my teeth and noticed when i was spitting out i saw bright red blood, this continued after a few more rinses, is this coming from my teeth or a more serious issue with my throat, im worried about throat cancer ?

Sensitive Gums: If the bleeding starts immediately after you brush your teeth then that comes from mild damage to your gums. There are many things to do to improve gum health. Start by using a soft or extra soft toothbrush and change it every couple of months. Also make sure to have regular check ups with your Dentist. With what you have presented there is no reason to be concerned about problems with your throat

Periodontal disease: You ought to see your dentist for an evaluation and to rule out periodontal disease that can result in tooth loss.

Bleeding: Probably Gingivitis or early Periodontitis, in other words, gum disease. This isn't a throat issue. If it has been more than 6 months since your last professional cleaning, if you smoke or abuse alcohol, if you brush less than 2 minutes each time, if you don't floss, you are probably dealing with progressive gum disease. Please see your General Dentist or a specialist Periodontist to address this.
