A member asked:

My dad is in his 70s. he controls his pressure using pharmapress 10mg and amlodipine 5mg.his pressure is rising suddenly at night for 2 nights. reading today was 216/84.what could be the cause? he's also a type 1 diabetic. what can we do?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Hypertension: Nocturnal worsening of hypertension is not unusual. Your dad is taking modest doses of both medications and, if his physician agrees he could .increase the doses of both and perhaps add a mild diuretic to potentiate the antihypertensive effect without aggravating his diabetes. The goal would be a blood pressure of 130/80.
