Muscle cramp/strain : Your calf muscles (gastrocnemius and soleus) can become strained or partially torn from a single significant force/injury or from a cumulative effect from overuse. The muscles can cramp (contract), and feel tight. This would cause pain in the thicker area along the back of your leg. Rest, ice, ace wrap and decreased use should allow the tightness to subside. Stay hydrated to help prevent cramps.
