Microtrauma: Overuse of joints can cause pain and warmth. If you recently started a new sport or exercise or increased the intensity, it is possible that your body is responding to microtrauma of muscles and ligaments by recruiting more fluid to the area causing swelling, pain and warmth. Use analgesics, ice and rest to reduce the pain, try an incremental increase in intensity instead to prevent this.
