More information: A sputum analysis will provide more information. Monitor your temperature, drink fluids, rest and use a cool air mist humidifier. This may occur with viral illness as well, but if you have fever and chills, please see your PCP right away. Antibiotics will not treat a viral illness, and are only indicated for a bacterial illness. A virtual consultation is available on Healthtap.

Antibiotics: Not from this site. You posted this on the Free Public Health Education site for HealthTap where we do not diagnosis, treat or refer. The green color of your phlegm is not diagnostic for bacterial infections. This can also occur with viral illnesses.
