Right away!: A woman needs to allow at least 4-6 weeks for her cervix, uterus and vagina to heal after giving birth. This typically means no sexual intercourse during this time. Progestin only pills, patches and implants can be started almost immediately after birth, but mechanical birth control (including IUD, diaphragm, etc) should wait for at least 4 weeks. Talk to your Dr at your postpartum visit.
