A member asked:

My 6 week old infant has just received his scheduled immunisations. what can i use to soothe the injections? i have amethocaine and anethaine local anesthetic creams, are either of these suitable

Basics: Nothing you apply to the skin surface will reach the origin of any pain deep in the muscle. A cool compress can slow pain signals & provide some relief. Acetaminophen products given orally may help. Part of the kids fussiness could be their surprise that they received the injections. It will pass shortly.
