Depending on BCP: Some bcps will suppress your hormones so that you will not get a normal period. Sometimes they do not suppress them enought and this can cause spotting. Metformin can help this but you might not be on the right dosage. There are other things that can also affect your period and spotting with pcos- like diet, vitamin levels, stress, etc. You should discuss this with your doctor.

PCOS and OCP: If you have pcos, you can still have irregular or no menstrual cycles. Since you have been spotting, that is somewhat concerning as there may be overgrowth of the endometrial lining. Taking metformin will reduce the Insulin resistance and may make things more regular but isn't a treatment for bleeding or making your cycles regular. I would have your doctor evaluate the bleeding.
