Talk to your Dr.: There are multiple grades of gliomas -- grade II, III and IV, with grade IV being the most malignant. Glioblastoma, sometimes referred to as glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), is considered a grade IV tumor. They are the most aggressive and are very infiltrative. The standard treatment is surgery followed by radiation and chemotherapy. You should discuss life expectancy with your Dr.

Grade 4: Glioblastoma grade is given by the type of cell, not the size and GBM is grade 4. With treatment including surgery, radiation and chemo half of the patients survive over a year, without treatment prognosis is limited at months. Palliative care and/or hospice should be implemented as soon as no more disease oriented therapies are being considered and for better symptom control.
