Some basics: I am leery of anyone who uses the label asthma for any infant since so many other things can cause wheezing in infants that will disappear when they are older. Many lower respiratory viruses trigger it & once done it can continue off & on for months. Treatment must be coordinated by the doc treating the issue based on exam & past efforts.

Wheezing: The diagnosis of asthma is based on recurrent episodes of physician diagnosed wheezing at this age. There are many causes of wheezing and if there is no response to the current medication, additional testing may be indicated. The testing may include a cardiac exam, chest image, documentation of triggers of the wheezing. Structural causes include congenital lung defects.
