A member asked:

If you are on contraceptives and want to start a family, do i need to stop the contraceptives or consult with my gynecologist first?

Yes: Different kinds of contraceptives have different effects on your body. With the exception of condoms, usually it takes some time between discontinuing the contraception and when conception happens. Consulting with a gynecologist is always a good idea before trying to get pregnant, but not necessarily mandatory unless you have special health concerns.

Preconceptional ev. : A preconceptional visit (for evaluation/re-evaluation of your medical history, family hx, gynecological hx etc... as well as personalized counseling) by a knowledgeable obstetrician would be your best and most valuable first step towards "starting a family".
