BV? STD? Trich?: Any new, abnormal, or unexplained vaginal discharge needs professional evaluation; get seen soon. (Do not self treat or with only a pharmacist's advice.) Discharge with strong odor usually is bacterial vaginosis, an overgrowth of bacteria. BV often is a sign of an STD like gonorrhea or chlamydia, and trichomonas (an STD) also causes discharge with odor. Yeast causes little discharge or odor.
