The basics: The urine pregnancy tests turn positive when they detect chemicals made by the new embryo/placental mass after it attaches to the womb. A negative test can mean it is too early to tell or is not happening. It is generally going to be positive by 2-3 wks after conception. normal women can occasionally skip a cycle or two.
