I just got diagnosed as having an anal abscess on the opening of my rectum. its very small but deep. the doctor prescribed cream due to location. im having anxiety and want to know what my chances are of this becoming a fistula?

Low: Since this has been examined by a doc and you were given a topical , that doc felt it could be treated safely like that as opposed to an incision/drainage. If needed, that I/D could always be done in the future. Hot packs, Prid salve, and your prescription cream should allow the access to open and drain on its own. Good luck!

Rectal abscess: A rectocutaneous fistula is a relatively common complication of rectal abscess, up to 1/3 of cases. Keep in touch with your doc and let him or her know in case symptoms persist or worsen.
