It’s like a zit: Essentially you have a zit, a pimple. Folliculitis is an infection of a hair follicle anywhere on your body and is not a sexually transmitted infection. Sometimes shaving with a reusable razor can be a cause. Usually a topical antibiotic ointment is sufficient; sometimes oral antibiotics if it’s more severe.
