Missed/light periods: Women can miss their periods for many reasons (one of which is pregnancy, so make sure to get a pregnancy test). Stress can do it, so can different medicines, as well as many other things. It may also be the start of menopause, which will make periods more irregular.

Periods: You need to give more info. If you are on the pill, it is normal to have lighter periods. If not on the pill, are you pregnant--see your doctor.

Not necessarily.: The main reason for light periods is a change in hormone levels. Causes for what seems to be a light period can include: implantation bleeding in early pregnancy, thyroid problems, eating disorders, excessive exercise, initial periods for a girl, use of an intrauterine device, oral contraceptives ; perimenopause.
