Muscle tightness : There are quite a few different muscles in the head and neck region that are influenced from swallowing. Often, however, the eustachian tube (the tube from the nasopharynx to the inner ear) is inflamed or blocked when headaches occur and pressure in the eye region on swallowing. Warm salt water rinses can often help, softening and removing ear wax is important along with a decongestant.
