A member asked:

My doctor thinks i should stop taking my birth control pill due to high blood pressure. now that i am on my blood pressure medicine why can i not keep taking the birth control pills too?

Higher risk to you: Oral contraceptives contain low amounts of estrogen which increases already the risks of stroke and blood clotting. Although the blood pressure is being treated and hopefully controlled, it too raises the risk for stroke compounded by the pill use. Since your MD is not comfortable with that risk to you, as he/she also has to assume that risk in the event of such occurrence
