Check temperature: Check temperature prior to the use of Tylenol or Motrin. If there is a fever, please follow up with your pediatrician. Teething pain may also be controlled by use of a chilled teething ring and local application of a numbing agent available over the counter. I would suggest not using pain medications by prescription for teething.

Analgesics: It's a very hard time for both the child and his parents. By age 2 your son should have a year long established relationship with your General Dentist or preferably a Pedodontist (Children's dental specialist) who will have many suggestions (cold teething ring, topical anesthetics, etc) to help him through this process.
