A member asked:

What is echolalia..?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Vocal repetition: Echolalia is a vocal and/or verbal repetition of what a person says. A child with developmental problems may "parrot" back what someone says if they do not understand it. It is also a normal phase of the development of language. Echolalia should normally disappear around two and half years of age. It is often considered abnormal if it persists beyond age 3 years. Request referral if lasting longer.
