Time will tell: You are on the treatment which I use to prevent outbreaks of herpes. Outbreaks can be triggered by increased sexual activity, emotional stress, excitement or illness. Valtrex 500 mg is the typical dose to prevent outbreaks. There are some patients for whom 500 mg is not enough and we use 1000 mg daily. Good luck!

I have HSV1 genitally. i had an outbreak (2 sores). I'mtaking valtrex. Day 1 to 7, I took 1g twice a day. Day 8-14, I took 1g three times daily. Day13 I dropped down to 1g daily. It's now Day14. I only have a small mark left. Am I still contagious?
