Depends: There is significant variability on who suppressive therapy for HSV may be instituted. But usually the choice to start a daily medication for suppressive purposes is based on the frequency of outbreaks and severity. I have HSV1 genitally. i had an outbreak (2 sores). I'mtaking valtrex. Day 1 to 7, I took 1g twice a day. Day 8-14, I took 1g three times daily. Day13 I dropped down to 1g daily. It's now Day14. I only have a small mark left. Am I still contagious?
