A member asked:

I have a sore throat. been sore for a few days. no fever. body slightly achish. think i have swollen glands in my neck. throat covered - covered - in white patches. sore when i swallow. but not excessively painful so surprised by how bad it looks. ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

White patches: This could be a strep infection, viral infection or infectious mononucleosis. Get examined by a physician. Appropriate testing includes a rapid throat culture to check for strep, cbc and differential white blood cell count and a monotest. In the meantime gargle with warm salt water.
