Particles persist: Virus particles may remain active (able to produce infection) for longer than 10 minutes on skin or other surfaces. The particles can be inactivated in many ways, including with heat and various chemicals, such as bleach or alcohol. Someone's skin or a surface that someone else has touched, sneezed near, or coughed near may be contaminated. Frequent handwashing is strongly recommended.
