A member asked:

Dentists diagnosed periapical abscess and prescribed 400mg metronidazole and 500mg amoxicillan x3@day for 5 days. is this infection dangerous, ie should i go to the dentist despite covid-19 outbreak in cape town?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Infection: All infections are dangerous. Antibiotic will mitigate the spread of bacteria to ther organ systems for as long as you take it, but symptoms will come roaring back unless you have the tooth treated before you finish the round of antibiotic. Covid-19 is dangerous, an abscessed tooth is dangerous. Please call a root canal specialist, an Endodontist, who can best guide you.
