A member asked:

Is brain cell damage/neurotoxicity only a complication of alcohol or benzo withdrawal of seizures occur or is it a possibility nonetheless?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Alcohol and benzo: Withdrawal from both alcohol and benzodiazepines can cause severe agitation, fast heart rate, high blood pressure, hallucinations and other symptoms that can lead to severe seizures and even death in patients who are dependent on them. Long term heavy use of alcohol can cause neurological damage in any nerves and even the brain that may be irreversible.
